Starbucks Coffee

Posted on 15:56 by cena
Starbucks Coffee
Charlotte Street
Nassau, New Providence

Notice they really don't use street numbers in the address.  I have no idea how mail gets delivered.

All Starbucks look the same, no matter where you are.

I have never written a post on Starbucks. However, I have frequented the establishment. It's a good coffee. I prefer what I make at home, but if I'm out and about Starbucks is good.  They have plenty of different types of beans for a variety of flavors and strengths.

This post finds me in the Bahamas.  Garrett has a furnished place, but there isn't a coffee pot here.  I have been drinking instant coffee, which for me is better than no coffee at all.

We ended up going to a Starbucks in Nassau one day after visiting Paradise Island.

I had a venti brewed coffee, and then I added a little cream.  I always prefer regular coffee to any of the fancy drinks.

In the U.S., it costs me about $2.30 with tax, I think.  This one costs $2.85.  Things are just more expensive in the Bahamas.

Another thing that is interesting is all the chains I have seen.  I've seen McDonalds, Burger King, Dominos, Sbarro Pizza, Outback, Subway, just to name a few.

I had to take a picture of the Burger King ad.  Memphis represents!  Ha ha.  The only chain I visited was Starbucks.

Seafront Sushi

Seafront Sushi
William St
Nassau, Bahamas

After having dinner, one day, we were walking back to the apartment.  When some people Garrett works with asked if we wanted to join them.  Since we already ate, we decided to join, but just have some sake and maybe a dessert.

It looked like a typical Japanese restaurant with typical Japanese food.

We had a large sake, which was $10.  I guess that's average priced.

Even though, we didn't have sushi, it did look good.

We had a banana tempura topped with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce.  Personally, I'm not a fan of banana tempura, but it was good for what it was.  I concentrated on the ice cream.

If I have time, I wouldn't mind trying their sushi, but I probably won't have time on this vacation.

Bamboo Shack

Bamboo Shack
Nassau, Bahamas

There are multiple locations of this local Bahamian chain. You can't eat there; you have to pick it up and take it away.

You order at one window, and they call you when it's ready.

Some of the Bahamians that Garrett works with here said that this was the best take away restaurant. Their motto is "We're deliciously Bahamian."

This was one of the more affordable restaurants that we visited.  They sell an "Obama Burger."  I have no idea what it is.

For the most part, they sell burgers and "snacks."  The snacks come with fries and a roll.  I didn't see any vegetables here.

Drinking and riding in a car is completely legal.  They wrapped the meal in a paper bag.

They asked me if I wanted ketchup and hot sauce.  I said yes.  They doused everything with it.  No sauce on the side.  I actually had this happen at another place, too.

I got the conch and thigh combo.  A thigh comes with the leg.  Everything was good.  The roll was sweet.  I'm going to miss conch back in the US!

Spritz Restaurant and Bar

Spritz Restaurant and Bar
Olde Towne Marina Plaza
Sandyport
Nassau, Bahamas

On our way to dinner, our friend had to stop for gas.  She had to pay $5.43 per gallon!  Wow!

For dinner, we headed to the Sandyport area of Nassau.  This area features very nice houses with a marina.

This particular day, we decided to try Spritz.

We sat outside under the covered porch.  It was a cool day, as it had been raining all afternoon.  It had a nice view of the marina.

I decided to try the conch chowder.  I thought it would taste like New England clam chowder, but it did not.  It was in a red tomato broth.  The conch is similar to calamari.

Garrett had the spaghetti with shrimp.  It had tomatoes on top and plenty of succulent shrimp.  The pasta was not over cooked at all.  It was al dente.

For my main course, I went with fried calamari.  I enjoyed it immensely.

The restaurant offers a nice view and a variety of food options.  They also had several types of pizza that would have been large enough to share.

The Poop Deck

The Poop Deck
Eastbay
Nassau, Bahamas

We walked to go eat dinner, and had a lovely view of the ocean on the way there.

Garrett chose this restaurant called The Poop Deck.

I don't know what that means...

The website says the fish was caught that day.

It's a medium sized restaurant.

The views are amazing.  You can see the ocean and the marina, with plenty of boats. It was raining slightly but they had plastic sides so, it was like we were still outside.

The restaurants here are good but not really fancy. However, the prices seem high.

This is the first restaurant where we were given complimentary bread.

Kalik Gold is my new favorite drink.  It's a full flavored beer, and it has a higher alcohol content.

Garrett had a pina colada.  It was good, but too sweet for my taste.

I had the whole snapper.  It comes with the head and all.  I think I prefer my fish this way.

Apparently, I could have chosen my own snapper, but I didn't.  I had it grilled.  For my sides, I had cole slaw (which seems like a really common side item here and peas and rice, which is also very common).

Garrett had the same sides, but he had mahi mahi.  It was also nice and fresh.

I love seafood, and this place was definitely worth it!

Pirates of Nassau and Straw Market

Straw Market

Pirates of Nassau
King and George Street
Downton Nassau

While exploring downtown, we visited the straw market, which reminds me of a flea market.

It has tons of souvenirs and tons of homemade Bahamian things, like jewelry. I did buy a few things here.

It's near the cruise ship dock, so there are tourists everywhere.

Being a group of islands, the Bahamas has a history with pirates.

Thus, there's a museum dedicated to the history.

Well, we didn't visit the museum, but we did visit the pub.
